Chef Wanted: Join The Chef Tours in Seville
The Chef Tours is looking for a chef to take over two established food and wine tours currently operating in Seville.
Both tours are already developed and running, with an existing format, restaurants, stops and customer base. You would be trained on the current tours, but we don’t expect you to simply follow a script. If you have ideas for improving the experiences, know interesting restaurants or food producers, or have contacts that could make the tours better, we want to hear them.
The idea is to have a chef in Seville who can make the tours their own while maintaining the quality and character that guests already expect from The Chef Tours.
Why We’re Looking for a Chef in Seville
Our current chef guide is wonderful, but his other work has increasingly taken him out of town. The starts and stops aren’t good for the tours or for our guests, particularly when people have traveled from around the world and booked an experience expecting to meet a chef who knows Seville.
We’re looking for someone who will be based in Seville throughout the summer and can provide consistency.
The tours currently operate in the evening, which makes this particularly well suited to a chef or culinary professional who already has a daytime job. You don’t have to give up your existing work to do this. You need to be available in the evenings and, ideally, committed to staying in Seville throughout the summer.
What Would You Actually Be Doing?
You would lead two established food and wine tours, introducing guests to the food, wine, restaurants and stories that make Seville one of Europe’s great food cities.
You would be trained on the current tours, so you aren’t starting from scratch. At the same time, we don’t believe in handing a chef a script and telling them to repeat it forever. If you know a better restaurant, have a relationship with a local producer, discover an interesting new food stop or simply have an idea that would make the tour better, we want to hear it.
The tours can evolve.
That’s important because Seville’s food scene evolves, too.
Restaurants change. New chefs arrive. Old places disappear. A good chef knows that the best experiences often come through personal relationships and local knowledge rather than simply searching Google for the highest-rated restaurant.
How Much Does The Chef Tours Pay?
We pay 45% of the gross ticket price to the chef. That percentage covers your time and the food costs associated with the tour.
Tour prices can also be adjusted if necessary. If there is a compelling reason to change the price because of food costs, the experience we’re offering or the local market, we’re open to discussing it.
The important point is that you aren’t being asked to build a business from scratch.
The Chef Tours handles the marketing, advertising, bookings and customer service. You don’t have to spend your time trying to find customers or answering booking inquiries. We do that.
Your job is to provide a great experience.
Why Seville?
Seville is one of the world’s great food cities, and it is almost impossible to understand the city without understanding how people eat.
Tapas aren’t simply small plates that tourists order because they’re supposed to. Eating in Seville is social, informal and deeply connected to the neighborhoods. A good food experience should explain that rather than simply taking visitors from one famous tapas bar to another.
That is what we’re trying to accomplish with our Seville food and wine tours.
The food is the way into the city. It opens the door to conversations about history, immigration, local traditions, agriculture, wine, family businesses and the people who have shaped Seville’s culinary culture.
That’s why we want a chef leading these experiences.
What Kind of Chef Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for a chef or culinary professional who lives in Seville and expects to remain there throughout the summer.
You should be comfortable talking to people and genuinely interested in Seville’s food culture. You don’t have to be a professional tour guide, but you do need to enjoy being around people and be able to lead a small group without making the experience feel scripted or formal.
Personality matters.
Our guests are often traveling from different countries and may have never been to Seville before. They’re not just looking for someone who knows food. They want someone who can make them feel welcome and give them a perspective on the city that they couldn’t get by following a guidebook.
Local knowledge and local connections are a major advantage.
Why Consistency Matters
June and September are among the busiest months for tourism in Seville, and summer is an important season for these tours.
Yes, Seville is hot. Very hot at times. But that doesn’t stop people from coming. In fact, June and September are particularly busy because travelers are looking for the Seville experience while trying to avoid the worst of the summer heat.
That makes consistency especially important.
We would rather have one chef who knows the tours, knows the restaurants, knows the guests and is available consistently than constantly start and stop with different guides.
Our current chef has done a wonderful job. This isn’t about replacing someone because the tours aren’t working. It’s about finding someone who can be there when his other work takes him out of town.
What Does The Chef Tours Handle?
We handle the business side.
That includes marketing, advertising, bookings and customer communication. We have an established website and an established brand, and we’re already bringing customers to the tours.
You bring the culinary knowledge, personality and local connections.
This is an opportunity for a chef to become part of an international chef-led food tour company without having to spend years building a food-tour business from the ground up.
The Chef Tours currently operates experiences in Paris, Seville, Berlin, Istanbul, Mexico City and Buenos Aires.
Every city is different. That’s the point.
What Makes The Chef Tours Different?
We’re often described as a food tour company, but that’s not quite right.
We use food as the excuse.
What we’re really creating is human connection.
Our tours are small, chef-led experiences designed to get travelers beyond the obvious tourist attractions and into the places, conversations and experiences that reveal something about a city.
That is particularly important in Seville. A visitor can find a list of the city’s best tapas bars in about thirty seconds. What is harder to find is someone who can explain why a particular dish matters, introduce them to the people behind it and show them how locals actually experience their own city.
That’s the role of the chef.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a chef do on a food tour in Seville?
The chef leads an established small-group food and wine tour, introduces guests to the food and wine, explains the local culinary culture and manages the guest experience. The chef is trained on the existing tours but can also suggest new restaurants, food experiences and improvements.
Can I have another job and work for The Chef Tours?
Yes. The Seville tours currently operate in the evening, making this opportunity particularly suitable for a chef or culinary professional who works during the day.
How much does The Chef Tours pay its Seville chef?
The Chef Tours pays 45% of the gross ticket price to cover the chef’s time and the food costs associated with the tour. Tour prices can be adjusted when appropriate.
Does the chef have to find customers?
No. The Chef Tours handles marketing, advertising, bookings and customer communication. The chef’s primary responsibility is delivering the tours and helping maintain and improve the experience.
Do I need previous tour-guide experience?
Previous tour-guide experience is not the central requirement. Culinary knowledge, personality, local knowledge and the ability to connect naturally with a small group are more important. The current tours are established and the chef will be trained before leading them.
Where does the chef need to live?
The ideal candidate will be based in Seville and available consistently throughout the summer. Consistency is important because the tours are already operating and guests need to know that their chef guide will be there.
Why is Seville a good city for a chef-led food tour?
Seville has a deeply rooted food culture built around tapas, traditional restaurants, markets, local products and social dining. A chef-led tour allows visitors to understand not only what they are eating but why particular foods, restaurants and culinary traditions matter to the city.
